The order that saves time
- Declutter and take out the rubbish first
- Work top to bottom: ceilings and light fittings, then walls and shelves, then floors
- Do one room at a time and finish it before moving on
- Leave floors for last in each room so you do not re-walk over clean ones
Kitchen
- Inside the oven, microwave and fridge
- Degrease the extractor, hob and the fronts of cupboards
- Descale the kettle and taps
- Clean behind and under appliances that can be moved safely
- Wipe the tops of wall cupboards and the inside of drawers
Bathroom
- Scrub tile grout and silicone edges
- Descale the shower head and taps
- Clean the extractor fan cover and the inside of the cabinet
- Wash the shower curtain or screen and bath mats
Living areas and bedrooms
- Wipe doors, frames, switches and skirting
- Clean inside windows and sills
- Vacuum under the sofa and bed, and the mattress
- Dust lampshades, curtains, picture frames and the tops of furniture
- Wash cushion covers and pillows where the labels allow
How often?
As a guide, kitchens and bathrooms benefit from a deep clean every three to six months, and the rest of the home once or twice a year. Homes with children, pets or smokers may need it more often.
Common questions
What is the difference between a deep clean and a regular clean?
A regular clean maintains a home that is already in good condition. A deep clean is slower and more detailed, and covers appliances, grout, windows, frames and the areas under furniture.
